Principal's Weekly Bulletin Oct. 1, 2012

Message to Staff…

I hope you had a restful weekend, and it was great to see so many of you at our culture building outing to Yen Sushi on Friday evening.  For those of you who were unable to attend, please know that you were sorely missed and I hope that you are able to attend next time.  I will be sure to share some of the “enlightening” footage from the evening so that we all have the opportunity to enjoy some of our colleague’s hidden talents!  Ok team… October is considered the “make it or break it month” in education.  It’s long with no breaks; the weather changes; honeymoons end, if they haven’t already; and the dreary list goes on… But I believe that we can make it!  We are “Wavestrong” and that means that we can turn the expected negative into a sustainable positive.  Let’s turn an ordinary October into an extraordinary “Rocktober!”  Are you with me?  I certainly hope so because I believe in you, our families and every one of our scholars!  All of them, “the good, the bad and the…!”  Well you know the rest.  As always, I appreciate your patience and commitment.  And remember… “It’s great to be a Westside Wave, where we transform potential into reality!”

Our week at a glance…

The highlight of this week will be NWEA testing which will take place in the admin office common area.  Please be aware that students will be called out of classes via call slips that you should receive in your mailboxes.  Please understand that students finish testing sessions at different times and will rejoin the period in session when they are done.  Further, remember to be appropriately considerate with assignments at this time, especially classwork that may be missed.  For example, if a student misses classwork due to NWEA testing, I would expect your grade book to reflect the following: the assignment excused, properly coded (EX) and a brief explanation in the comments such as, “assignment excused due to NWEA testing.”
As many of you may already be aware, our SPED instructor, Becky Davis has not been present.  She is currently out on leave and plans to return next semester.  As such, she is NOT to be contacted for work related matters.  Please respect her privacy and refrain any use of Green Dot email to communicate with her during this time.  We are working hard to secure a highly qualified long-term substitute to assume Becky’s responsibilities and we will keep you informed as the process continues.  Should you have questions or concerns, please direct them to admin.
Finally, if you have not already been scheduled for your S1 Formal Observation, please look for an email this week, as we move forward with that process.
